Pyrenean Uplift (Estudis en curs que s'estan fent)

Dear Valenti Turu,

In February I have been to the University of Zaragoza, meeting Jose Luis Peña and Carlos Sancho Marcen and with great interest I heard from Jose Luis, that you are a Geologist working in Andorra and that you are dealing with neotectonics and dating in the Upper Segre area, but let me introduce myself first.

I am Martin Stange, PhD student at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands, see www.geo.vu.nl/~balr <http://www.geo.vu.nl/%7Ebalr> for more detailed information.
I am working on a research project focussing on the topographic evolution of the Pyrenees, called Pyrtec, see http://pyrtec.uib.no <http://pyrtec.uib.no/>.

Pyrtec is part of the TopoEurope programme, sponsored by the European Science Foundation and some national science foundations (http://www.topo-europe.eu/). Our part in this collaborative project is to unravel the tectonic and climatic influences on river evolution, to detect neotectonic vertical motions, and to determine sediment budgets for the river systems. I will make my PhD on this topic, which is scheduled for four years.

In the course of my research I will focus on southern Pyrenean streams, especially the Segre and Noguera rivers, and therefore your work on the fluvial terraces and the moraines in this region is very useful for me. Jose Luis just send me your papers from 2006 and I will read through them as soon as possible. However, I first wanted to let you know about our project and if you are interested, I would be delighted to co-operate with you. I plan to do fieldwork, OSL dating, cosmogenic dating, GIS and DEM analyses and numerical fluvial modeling. I can imagine that an interchange of experience and ideas could be of mutual benefit, and joint fieldwork could be interesting as well.

Please let me know if you would like to know more about our project and our plans.

I hope to hear from you soon,

Best regards,

Martin
